Still can’t believe this happened. meeting the co-founder of Sketchup🥹
Last Friday, I had an incredible 1:1 call with Brad Schell, the co-founder of SketchUp, a tool that redefined how we think about 3D modeling.
Originally built for #architects, #SketchUp ended up in the hands of millions: designers, kids, consultants, and creators from every field. Brad shared stories from his journey, his mission to make 3D modeling accessible, intuitive, and joyful, and I was truly inspired. His humility and passion were contagious.
What resonated most was how closely his vision aligned with what we’re building at LYNEports. I shared with Brad how frustrating it was in my own career to piece together tools like Google Maps, plugins, regulations, and expensive software just to design a simple aviation project. Sometimes all I needed was a lightweight tool to help answer questions like:
📍 Where should I place this runway?
📏 What’s the minimum size needed for a #Boeing_747?
🌍 Are there any regulations I need to know for California?
Brad’s story reminded me that innovation often starts with a simple desire to make things easier for people like us. That’s exactly what we’re working hard to do at LYNEports, to make planning for aviation and infrastructure more accessible, interactive, and smart.
I left that call energized and even more thankful for the journey we’re on. With my co-founders Lorenzo Bennassar and Vinoth S, and the LYNEports team, we’re pushing to make this new era of planning possible for drones, #airports, #vertiports, and maybe even homes (shoutout to our users in Holland for that!).
To Brad: thank you for your valuable time, for waking up early to talk, and for paving the way for so many of us by taking a leap of faith to start with fixing a problem in the 3D world. I owe you a coffee soon in the US.
Here’s to making #3D_tools that spark possibilities.
